The Basel Dragons (northern clubs reserves side for 2023) started off the day, taking on the Geneva Jets reserves. Young Winterthur siblings Daniel and Nadine Bunge starred alongside spontaneous roadside recruit Steve in a great team effort that saw the Dragons topple the home favourites.

Final Score: Geneva Jets Reserves 8.10 (58) def. by Basel Dragons 11.14 (80)

Next up, in the first seniors match of the day, the Lions took on the Jets, with both teams fancying their chances for a win to kick off their 2023 campaign. The Lions started hot off the blocks and never looked back, taking a six goal to two lead into half time. In what was an evenly spread team performance, hard attacking footy and accurate goalkicking helped the Lions to a dominant win.

Final score: Geneva Jets 3.7 (25) def. by Winterthur Lions 12.2 (74)

Next up, The Jets lined up against the Zurich Giants. The Giants were competitive in the second half but couldn't keep up with the Jets pace and quality.

Final score: Geneva Jets 10.4 (64) def. Zurich Giants 3.4 (22)

The final match of the Day was the Zurich Derby between the Zurich Giants and the Winterthur Lions. As is typcial of a Zurich game, the match was physically very competitive. The skills and great cohesion between the Lions players shone through and led the Lions to a handy victory. We look forward to hopefully taking on a more full-strength squad from Zurich next round in Lausanne.

Final Score: Zurich Giants 2.2 (14) def. by Winterthur Lions 12.8 (80)

All matches were played in great spirit and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Jet's signature array of food and drinks, on what was a very well organised, fantastic day of footy. In the boat race, the Lions gave up an early lead to finish third behind the Giants (1st) and the Jets (2nd)

Next up: Round 2, Sat, 3rd June, LUC Rugby Club, Lausanne.
